Stormästare Sergei Tiviakov gick i Smyslovs schackskola och blev världsmästare för juniorer, både i klasserna U16 och U18. 1994 representerade han Ryssland i schackolympiaden men sedan 1997 bor han i Groningen i Holland. Med sitt nya land blev han Europamästare för lag både 2001 och 2005 och han vann Holländska mästerskapen både 2006 och 2007.
